CELEBRATING Ms. BINDER
On March 20-22, 2020, Former students of Saker Baptist college, popularly known as Sakerettes are set to honor their legendry vice principal, Ms. Wilma Binder in her community as a show of gratitude. Their activities would include volunteering their services with select charities supported by Ms. Binder. As a North American Baptist Missionary, Ms. Binder arrived Saker Baptist College 3 years after this prestigious all girls boarding secondary school was founded. She took up the position of Vice Principal after Barbara Struh and stayed in this position until 1997, becoming the longest serving top administrator of all time at Saker Baptist College. Due to her long tenure at the school and her stringent disciplinary style, Miss Binder came to define Saker Baptist College in the collective memory of both the students who attended Saker and their families. This blog has been created as an archive of our collective memory.
Please share your most memorable moments with Ms. Binder in Saker or what you heard about her from other students or your relatives who attended the school. Also, share your photos with her during your time at Saker and beyond. We would love to display some of these pictures so Ms. Binder’s community can understand her impact from the pictures showing how far we have come.
Thank You,
Lum Fube

Dear Ms.Binder,
Wishing you a very happy birthday and God’s blessings always. We missed the opportunity to celebrate with you in person but are celebrating you nonetheless.
I remember all the times I was consistently on the punishment list for one violation or another. I specifically remember when my form one A class revolted against our French tutor Mr. Eyongtata and you pulled me out of class to make me responsible but I stood my grounds. Even solicited help from my older sister did not work on this form one head girl. You knew then I would be a handful which I was and loved every moment of it. These stories we have told over and over as they hold a special place in our hearts during those formative years. We continue to pray for you, especially during these current times for God’s special favors. Be safe and well!
Happy birthday ms. Binder, wishing you God’s abundant blessings as you celebrate this special day. Thanks so much for all you did for us at SBC. WE LOVE YOU 😘😘

Saker gave me the best nurturing l could ever expect to find in a learning institution . Ms Binder contributed 75% to that moral upbringing. She was very strict but also found a way of being even handed and loving to every one without favoritism . She was a highly dedicated and intelligent dedicated. One incident which amazed me was her great retentive memory such as recognize the toes of my classmate Catherine Alexander when she was trying to hide behind the Annex doors for being out there at the wrong time. We were about 400 students at the time yet she managed to recognize her students with such precision . May God continue to bless her richly. Elsie Ngowo Effange-Mbella
Happy birthday Ms Binder. May this be a very special birthday for you. Wishing you God’s abundant blessings today and always. Thank you for all your service to Saker. Hope we all can celebrate with you sometimes in the future. Enjoy your day.

Happy birthday miss Binder. Thank you for your commitment to young ameroonians and African women. We thank you for pouring into our lives. May God richly reward you in Jesus name

Ms. Binder HAPPY BIRTHDAY. When we look back at those years in Saker, we gave you all sorts of names just because of the discipline you were inculcating in us. Our self discipline today is thanks to your selfless efforts. We thank God for His grace and the energy he gave you to positively impact on the lives of so many women in Cameroon. We pray for His abundant blessings for many more fruitful years in your life.
Happy birthday to a dear mother Binder. You were strict, loved order and discipline, but you were also just. I can remember you for palaver letters when you would go through letters sorting out those that came from people who were not on our lists of correspondence. If any of us had a palaver letter, we knew we would have a tough time defending ourselves before you.But you had a listening ear and if a girl could defend herself successfully, you will give her letter to her and not send it to her parents. You know, this made us developed the idea of “Cousin” to avoid palaver letters.
Ms Binda, I remember you as a young, beautiful and neat woman who loved cleanliness. You taught us cleanliness. If you saw a piece of paper lying around and a girl happened to be around, you would ask her to pick it up. I can still see you in my mind’s eye with your Metta “contri” bag hanging from your left shoulder and you picking up the papers and putting them in the bag as you moved along. For this, we nicknamed you “OJ” meaning Odd Jobs. I also remember how during plot inspection you would bend down to see if the grass was cut level. We dreaded plot inspection for fear that we might be asked to repeat clearing, so we did our best to gain your approval. This kept the campus so clean that it always looked as if it had been done with a lawnmower I also remember morning inspection when you would go through the lines of girls to ensure that we were properly dressed and neat. I remember you for your chocolates as an encouragement for those who took good care of their nails. I enjoyed those chocolates but the most important thing is that I leant a good lesson. I still care a lot about the cleanliness of my person, especially my nails, thanks to you,OJ. You had various ways of encouraging students in their studies. Thus you appreciated our English and made two of us write London GCE in that subject in form 4 at a time when students were not allowed to write GCE in that class. The values you instilled in us have carried us through life. You deserve the best from the hundreds of children God gave you in Saker Baptist Collage. Once again happy birthday, mother.
Alice Ntonifor
Ms Binder contributed 75% of the moral naturing l received from Saker. It turned out to be the best upbringing one could hope to find in any institution of learning . What l admired in Ms. Binder was her dedication and capacity as a senior administrator . She was very strict but also even handed and managed to show all of us love and kindness without favoritism . This earned her genuine respect among the students. I was especially struck by her intelligence and retentive capacity. One illustration was her recognizing the toes of my classmate Catherine Alexander who was trying to hide behind the Annex doors for being out during siesta which was strictly forbidden. It was unbelievable how she managed to remember Catherine’s toes among the 400 students that we were then. May God continue to bless her richly for her outstanding services in shaping our lives . Elsie Ngowo Effange-Mbella.
Happy birthday Ms. Binder as we saker girls called. So many fond memories of you while you served along with my parents in Saker Baptist college as a missionary. You were my very first boss paying me every week to water your flowers. You organized Saturday bible studies for all the staff children on campus at your house where I learned many bible verses. You followed up with my parents to make sure I completed my primary education and back to Saker for my secondary education. During the long term holidays I stayed with you so I could raise some money and I learned tailoring…. we made the Cameroonian food, I remember the day we made ekwang using vegetable oil instead of the palm oil😊. You are an amazing person and took your work as a missionary very seriously impacting many lives and even as you are back on the state side you’re still going to south America to help. Wishing you many blessed years and hoping to see you soon❤❤❤❤❤❤
Happy birthday Ms. Binder. Be renewed in strength and In spirit. Thank you always for your selfless sacrifices. You are always on our lips and in our hearts! 🥰🎂🎁🎉
Happy birthday, “Ma Bindy”. May our LORD keep us all to celebrate your centenary, IJN.
Happy birthday Ms. Wilma Binder. You have created a huge impact in our lives for ever. You are a God’s sent to Saker Baptist College.
In my personal interpretation….. your name says it all.
You wheeled yourself into our lives and you bounded us all and you educated us to become good citizens.
Thank you ever so much, and for ever I appreciate you. ❤️ Marie Pendie.
Happy happy birthday to you Ms Binder. I can’t forget how even when l
covered myself with bedsheets to get water from the tap you still recognized me from your window and l only heard my name for Saturday list. You’re truly a blessing for and to many of us. Enjoy your day🎂🎈❤️❤️❤️🎉🎉🎊🎊🎁🎁🎁

Dear Ms. Binder,
Here is to wish you a wonderful 83, many more glorious years ahead.
When I think of you, I am overwhelmed with pride and gratitude for your selfless engagement in the grooming of the girl child. Through your acts of discipline, you nurtured thousands of girls into female leaders today. We are indeed grateful and thankful for that. You remain our hero and we will celebrate you forever.
Personally, there are things I should be proud of in my life, but one of the greatest is my time spent in Saker. I was nurtured to become the very disciplined, focused and cultured woman I am today. You played a huge role in this process and for that, I say thank you Ma.
I know that I was very stubborn, but please forgive my youthful exuberance.
Love you Ma Binder !!!
Colette Koti, Class of 89
Happy birthday Ms. Binder. We celebrate your ministry, your life and your legacy. Unfortunately we are unable to celebrate in person as we had hoped but suffice it to say that your impact on raising thousands of girls through your time at Saker Baptist College cannot be put into words. That impact has been seen throughout the entire world.
I have so many fond memories of my time with you in Saker. You recognized and nurtured leadership in me even before I saw it in myself. As one of the youngest and smallest girls in my incoming class, you helped build the confidence that I’m able to exude today and I am so grateful.
May God continue to bless you with good health, strength and wisdom.
We love you Cheri Coco 😍

A special birthday salute to one of the most amazing women in the world. I hope this day is extra special for you Ms Binder… and wishing you many more bdays to come.
Happy Birthday to you Ms. Binder and may you remain blessed
Happy birthday to a special phenomenal woman – Ms. WILMA BINDER, the God-given Mother to every student that had the opportunity of going to Saker Baptist College, Victoria, Limbe – Cameroon. Thank you so much Ms.Wilma Binder for telling God in 1965, to send you and you will go. You were going to a strange country and probably had read what the previous missionaries had written on their experiences with mosquitoes and the malaria fever. But you were willing to come and impact the lives of the girls God will bring to you. You left dear family behind and all the many educational/social opportunities in your country and headed for the unknown like Abram did when God asked him to leave his country/people to an unknown destination.
Young as you were, you came and saw in the black African girl-child, tons of talents and a bright and happy future. You also saw in the Cameroonian men/boys, those common tendencies in all males in every society, for always wanting to satisfy their lust not putting into consideration the fact that a girl’s life can be ruined by one encounter with a man or a boy. “Palaver Letters” and many other disciplinary sanctions were resources you and the Saker Administration used to send some of them running away and giving the Saker girls room to focus on their studies. Ms. Wilma Binder, you were a real mother sent to Saker Baptist College, Limbe for over five decades. As humans we are all entitled to our thoughts and opinions especially about the people God puts on our paths. I know I did work many hours of punishment from you for one reason or another. I saw everything in the positive and not in the negative. I will proudly tell anyone interviewing me at any given point in time, that you, Wilma Binder, were a blessing to the students of Saker Baptist College, Limbe..
We celebrate your birthday and we celebrate you for devouting your entire life to Saker Baptist College, Limbe and for contributing in making us the “Phenomenal Women” we have become in our different professions/society. Thank you Ms. Binder.
We had made plans to come in our numbers to celebrate your birthday and celebrate you in Busmarck, to show to your community that the decades you spent away from them in Cameroon, were not wasted. But for your safety, the safety of members of your community, and the safety of the Ex-Saker students,, our plans were cancelled because of the Coronavirus. You, Wilma Binder, contributed in building the lives of today: wives, mothers, teachers, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, doctors, engineers, and so forth. We can never thank you enough but your name is engraved in our hearts. Proverbs 22:6(KJV) says: “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” You did not share your DNA with us, neither were you obliged to see us succeed both academically and morally. But you never forgot your promise to God before coming to Africa, as best summarized in the chorus of one of our Saker songs:
“I’ll go where you want me
to go dear Lord. Over
mountains, over plains,
or seas. I’ll say what you
.want me to say dear Lord
I’ll be what you want me
to be🙏
WE ARE CELEBRATING YOU
FOR A JOB WELL DONE. THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES, Ms. WILMA BINDER AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND MANY MORE AHEAD.🙏🙏❤❤👍🏻👍🏻
